Express Connect – The heart of Sify’s Routing Infrastructure

Sify has established a state-of-art nationwide Tier I MPLS-enabled IP backbone network with next-generation Internet Carrier Routing System (CRS) in the core that can seamlessly scale up to very high bandwidth capacities. Cisco’s CRS is the industry's first carrier router offering continuous system operation, unprecedented service flexibility and system longevity. Sify’s core network infrastructure is a highly redundant, meshed network that provides a unique edge in terms of reach and capacity. Sify supports EBGP and Static routing for route exchange between the customer and Sify.

Sify is the foremost carrier agnostic service provider with multiple redundancy level (oceanic and cable) with a backbone of well planned interconnecting hub locations, factoring in network traffic flow over the entire length and breadth of the network core. In Sify, the traffic flows over the primary paths, secondary paths and redundant flap paths, both at the physical link levels (each backbone link is installed only on well-protected paths over a complete ring structure) and at the IP levels (alternate IP flap paths – secondary and tertiary paths). The hub locations at Sify’s Tier III data centers are connected using next generation routers with highly resilient architecture for high-speed bandwidth aggregation.

The advanced network platform supports sophisticated Internet services, which include Data, Voice and Video services transmitted seamlessly over a single internet pipe with differential priority levels. The Cisco CRS-1 router backplane switching capacity is 92 Tbps. This capacity also helps minimize the impact of other overall network latency components such as serialization delays, packet processing delays, switching delays and other delays (processing power consumed due to routing protocol convergence, traffic carried during primary link failures, etc.).

International Cable Paths: Sify has a highly redundant, high capacity international network infrastructure that connects its PoPs across the globe via multiple cable systems to provide diverse paths to route traffic and ensure oceanic level redundancies to its customers. Sify has tied up with various peering partners and CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) at the domestic and international level to provide the best-in-class experience to its customers. This highly resilient architecture ensures access to the Internet from an alternate route in the event of failure of the primary route.

Domestic Infrastructure: Sify has a wide domestic network covering the length and breadth of the country. Sify has implemented dual PoPs in multiple cities to provide customers with PoP level redundancy. Corporate customers with high uptimes avail multi-homed solutions in these cities by taking two different links from multiple service providers to each of these PoPs. This ensures that the last mile redundancy as well as the redundancy of the PoP is adequate. Sify has two levels of redundancy between these POPs.

Intra-city redundancy: Each of the POPs are connected to each other through multiple basic service operators.

Inter-city redundancy: Each of these PoPs is connected to different cities through multiple links from NLDOs. This carrier level redundancy ensures that even if one or more link goes down on a specific NLDO, the city is not isolated, as the other POP would be still connected through the redundant links.
